Bathroom Renovation by the Tiling Company

Dismantling, Sealing and Laying in Saarland, Luxembourg and the Greater Region

FliesWerk takes care of the tiling work for your bathroom renovation: demolition, substrate, sealing, and the installation of floor and wall tiles up to the mega format of 160 × 320 cm. From Nalbach, we work throughout Saarland, in Luxembourg, and the Greater Region – for private builders, architects, and commercial clients.

Work is carried out without subcontractors. We determine the format, tile grid, and cuts before the demolition begins – so that there are no narrow leftover strips at the drain, inspection hatch, and shower partition.

Bathroom renovation: All tiling work from a single source

We handle demolition, substrate preparation, sloping screed, sealing, and tile laying ourselves. Sanitary, electrical, heating, and bathroom furniture are not included. We coordinate the processes directly with your installer and clarify what is feasible in the existing structure before placing the order.

Bathroom sealing according to DIN 18534

We seal in conjunction – directly under the tiles. In a level-access shower, usually the entire bathroom floor counts towards the water exposure class W2-I, while the wall behind the sink often does not. Pipe penetrations, corners, and drains are securely integrated with sleeves and sealing tapes. Silicone does not replace this sealing.

Which tile format fits in your bathroom?

The format determines the joint pattern, cuts, and effort:

  • Classic formats up to 30 × 60 cm are used where many corners and slopes require small cuts anyway.
  • Large formats in 60 × 120 or 120 × 120 cm are laid using the buttering-floating method and are vibrated in to avoid hollow spots.
  • Mega formats up to 160 × 320 cm cover a wall with a single slab; for this, the wall must be level.
  • Rectified tiles allow for narrow joints, uncalibrated goods need room for dimensional tolerances.
  • Slip-resistant floor tiles are chosen in the R-class that suits the use of the bathroom.
  • Mosaic follows slopes and curves where a large slab would break.

We establish the tile grid before laying to ensure cuts at the drain and inspection flap fit into the joint pattern. More info: Large format tiles.

Floor-level shower: four things to clarify in advance

Drain height, drainage, slope, and shower partition depend on each other. We determine them before the sloped screed is installed.

How much height is there?

The installation height of the drain determines how much space remains for slope, sealing, and tiles. In older buildings, it is usually the limiting factor.

Point drain or channel?

A point drain requires a slope from four directions, which is marked in the surface. For large tiles, we recommend a shower channel – then the floor slopes in only one direction.

How steep is the ground?

We work with about 1.5 to 2 percent slope. Enough for the water to drain safely, but little enough that the surface appears level when standing.

Where is the glass?

There must be no joint and no cut under the shower partition. The position must be fixed before we set the tile grid.

Joints that stay clean

In the shower, we grout with cementitious mortars of increased water resistance; where it needs to be particularly tight, epoxy resin is suitable. A dark tone on a light floor emphasizes any deviation, a tile-like one makes the surface blend together.

The silicone joints at the tub, shower tray, and corners are maintenance joints – wear parts that need to be replaced after a few years. The sealing is underneath, not in the joint.

Where we work in the bathroom

The effort is rarely in the open space, but at the edges.

Bathtub or shower tray

We seal behind and under the edge in a compound manner, the connection joint is set elastically. We position the inspection opening in such a way that a whole panel covers it.

Floor on underfloor heating

Installation will only take place after documented functional heating, for calcium sulfate screed after measuring the residual moisture. Transitions to parquet or vinyl will be determined in advance.

Wall and splash water

We always seal the shower wall, only sealing behind the sink if necessary. We coordinate the access panel and the actuator plate with the joint grid.

Niches and shelves

We plan shower niches in the grid of the tile to avoid narrow strips. The edges are processed using miter cuts and edge processing without profiles.

Natural stone and onyx

As a washbasin top, accent wall, or backlit element, we also process onyx natural stone. Marble and onyx are impregnated and do not tolerate acidic cleaners.

Mosaic on Curves

Mosaic follows slopes and curves, where a large slab would have to break – in the shower floor, on curved surfaces, in seating niches. With glass mosaic, we coordinate the adhesive and grout color.

Process of Your Project at FliesWerk

The tiling work takes several working days in an average bathroom. In addition, there are drying times: sloped screed, sealing, and adhesive must each dry thoroughly before proceeding.

Your bathroom renovation in Saarland, Luxembourg and the Greater Region

FliesWerk from Nalbach is available for you in Saarlouis, Saarbrücken and the border towns of Luxembourg. During consultation and measurement on site, we check the substrate, construction height, wall areas and connections. This way, we clarify what is possible in the existing structure, what preliminary work is required, and then create your offer.
